Hello, my name is Syleanna, and welcome to a whole new chapter in my life! I have been in love with cooking for a short time now. Because of this new hobby, I have definitely ventured out in my eating habits, and I feel proud of myself every time I try something new. It has only been a few weeks now that I have discovered how delicious seafood can actually be. :) Crab...mmmm.
In 2010, I graduated from Washington State University and in my senior year I started cooking more for myself. Before it used to be Top Ramen and rice. You know, easy meals. Then I met my husband. He helped me venture out and really got me into new foods. If it wasn't for him, I probably would still be eating rice and pasta every night. Two and a half years later, he helped me get into seafood (something I wouldn't even think about touching 3 years before). Now I can't wait to eat crab again. I'm even looking into shrimp recipes! I am growing up.
2011: I am starting this blog as a way to keep myself busy when my boyfriend of two and half years left for Army Basic Training. I had a plethora of time on my hands. I needed to keep my mind off of him being on the other side of the country. Along with being a distraction, I made this a challenge to myself. I have never challenged myself to do anything, and this is something I think I can do. If you would like to learn more about this challenge go to my first post!
Update 2012: After a while this blog became more of a hobby than a challenge. I am still trying to use as many of the magazines and cookbooks I have, but now it is more about learning new things and trying new foods. Since I have started posting, we have gotten married and settled more into this military life. He is stationed overseas now and I may be able to follow. When I get over to where he is, I will have this blog as a way to update my life to friends and family, as well as cook foods I never dreamed about cooking. Lets just say I will have to get used to this thing called kimchi.
I believe cooking is a way to bring out your true self. Every time I cook, I feel like a part of myself is going into this meal. Especially when I am cooking for other people. I want them to know that I put everything I had into it, and I do every time. :)
